Extension Care 101: How to get the best out of your luxury extensions

Properly taking care of your extensions is your number one priority once you make a hair investment. Here are some tips that you can use to make sure that your hair extensions last you a long time!

1. Wash Your Hair Extensions (Correctly!)

Just like with your natural hair, making sure you wash your hair extensions at the appropriate times is very important to the health and longevity of your extensions. The type of extensions that you have, (clip in, sew-in, tape-in, microlinks, etc), will determine how often you should be washing them. For example, clip-in extensions may not need to be washed as often as other types of extensions because other extensions can be washed as much as you would normally wash your natural hair. However, sometimes using the same shampooing and conditioning products that you use on your natural hair may not be ideal for your hair extensions. It is important to invest in quality hair care products such as the Danified Hair Care System(?), not ony for the health of your extensions, but also for your natural hair as well!

2. Brush Out Your Extensions

Again, just like with your natural hair, making sure you brush out and detangle your extensions on a daily/regular basis is incredibly important! Detangling your hair extensions will help prevent the risk of breakage and damage. Just be sure to handle your extensions with care and to gently brush them whenever you see fit. Additionally, investing in quality brushes and combs is ideal for the health of your extensions and natural hair - we recommend using Danified combs and brushes(?) to ensure a gentle and effortless detangling job!

3. Protect Your Hair From Heat Damage

Like natural hair, hair extensions can become damaged from overexposure to heat. Heat damage can cause your hair extensions (and your natural hair!) to become dry, brittle, and prone to breakage. This is why is it super important to protect your hair from heat as often as you can.

- Use heat protectant: Before styling your hair/hair extensions with any heated tools, please be sure to apply a heat protectant. Heat protectant helps with reducing the amount of heat applied to your hair by adding a protective barrier between your hair and the heat styling tool.

- Reduce the temperature: Whenever you can, try to keep the temperature on your heated styling tools as low as possible. We know that sometimes you may need a little more heat to achieve that certain hairstyle or look that you're be going for, but having high heat temperatures on your hair/hair extensions all the time can be very damaging!

- Take a break from heat: If you find yourself using heat to style your hair every single day, it may be smart to take a break from the heat for a little while. It doesn't have to be forever, but giving your hair/hair extensions a break from heat will help restore the health of your hair and minimize the amount of breakage and damage that heat causes. There are tons of cute styles that you can do with your hair on those days where you're not using heat!

4. Drying Your Hair Extensions

Lastly, making sure you dry your hair extensions properly is very important to the health and durability of your extensions. Air drying your extensions is the best way to let them dry. Letting your extensions air dry after you wash them is best because it allows the extensions to take a break from heat and reduces damage/breakage. However, if blow drying your extensions is your only option because you're in a time crunch, just make sure to apply a good heat protectant to your extensions before you start blow drying! Additionally, you should NEVER go to sleep with wet hair extensions. Falling asleep with wet or even slightly damp hair extensions can cause your extensions and your natural hair to become extremely tangled and matted. This can even sometimes cause your extensions to fall out. So always be careful, and remember to treat your extensions with the proper love and care that they need!
